Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Budget 2025 speech, announced the establishment of a new urea plant in Namrup, Assam, with an annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tons. The project is aimed at improving the region’s urea supply and supporting agricultural growth.
As part of a Rs 500 crore investment, the initiative will also include the expansion of the Brahmaputra Valley Fertiliser Corporation Ltd (BVFCL) by adding two new Nano Urea plants. The modernization of existing facilities will further increase production capacity.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted the potential of the project to generate employment, especially for the youth, while boosting local economic development. The move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting industrial growth in Northeast India.
