H onorable Mayor and Municipal Commissioner arrive in Jaipur for the conference

India will host the 12th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum for the Asia-Pacific region. The forum will be held from March 3 to 5, 2025, at the Rajasthan International Center in Jaipur. The event will focus on the theme “Realizing Circular Societies towards Achieving Sustainable Development Goals and Carbon Neutrality in the Asia-Pacific Region.” To participate in the forum, Lucknow’s Mayor, Mrs. Sushma Kharkwal, and the Municipal Commissioner, Mr. Indrajeet Singh, have also traveled to Jaipur. The 3Rs at this forum stand for Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

The Honorable Mayor mentioned that over 500 international and domestic participants are expected to attend the three-day conference. The forum will feature plenary sessions, country-specific discussions, and theme-based roundtable conferences, offering opportunities for knowledge sharing and networking. Additionally, participants will have the chance to tour solid and liquid waste management facilities and visit prominent heritage sites in Jaipur.

*Lucknow to Present on 3R Initiatives*

The Honorable Mayor shared that a dedicated ‘India Pavilion’ will showcase Lucknow’s remarkable initiatives and achievements in the 3R and Circular Economy domain. This pavilion will feature exhibitions by key ministries and national missions, reflecting India’s holistic governmental approach to sustainable development. It will also serve as a hub for interactive knowledge-sharing sessions, including roundtable dialogues with ministers and ambassadors, Mayors’ dialogues, policy discussions, and agreements under the CITIIS 2.0 program.

*Best Practices from Over 40 Indian and Japanese Businesses and Startups to be Showcased*

The Honorable Mayor further informed that the forum will host an international ‘3R Business and Technology Exhibition,’ providing a platform for over 40 Indian and Japanese businesses and startups to showcase their best practices, ideas, and solutions. This will encourage cross-learning while promoting the principles of circularity and 3Rs. Union Minister Manohar Lal also highlighted that the forum will showcase initiatives by NGOs and self-help groups across India, focusing on creating wealth from waste and promoting sustainability, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.

Lucknow to Share Best Practices in 3R*

The Honorable Mayor explained that the Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum, initiated by UNCRD in 2009, aims to provide a platform for sharing best practices in 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) among government officials in the Asia-Pacific region. The last forum was held in Cambodia in 2023. India previously hosted the 8th edition of the forum in Indore in 2018, and Lucknow is also participating this time.

*Forum Details*

This forum, focused on the Asia-Pacific region, aims to guide member countries in shaping policies and actions on 3R and Circular Economy in the coming years. The forum will feature participation from 38 invited member countries, 15 line ministries of the Indian government, nearly all states/Union Territories, over 60 cities, 40-plus startups and businesses, and around 120 speakers across three days. It will serve as a platform for policy discussions, collaboration, and knowledge exchange, fostering partnerships to accelerate progress toward achieving a circular economy and sustainable development goals (SDGs).
