Congress sowed only appeasement and divided the nation: Dr. Rajeshwar Singh
Lucknow . In his detailed social media posts, Sarojininagar MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh exposed the politics of appeasement practiced by the Congress Party with historical evidence. He remarked, “Congress is the mother of Muslim appeasement in India. Even before Independence, the Congress sowed the seeds of vote-bank politics, and after 1947, it institutionalized it.”
*Politics before Independence – The Beginning of Appeasement :*
Dr. Singh pointed out that the Lucknow Pact of 1916 was the first instance when the Congress legitimized communalism by accepting the demand for separate electorates for Muslims.
He reminded that during the Khilafat Movement of 1920, Congress supported the Turkish Caliph, and when the Moplah massacre in Malabar killed and brutalized thousands of Hindus, Congress did not even condemn it.
In 1942, the Congress ministry included representatives of the Muslim League, and in 1947, the tragedy of Partition displaced 15 million people, killed 1.5–2 million innocents, and subjected countless women to horrific atrocities.
“Thus, at the cost of national unity, Congress gave birth to Muslim appeasement, and the country paid the price through the Partition,” Dr. Singh stated.
*Independent India – Institutionalization of Appeasement :*
Dr. Singh highlighted how, after Independence, Congress firmly embedded appeasement into the policies of the Indian state.
Hindu refugees from Pakistan were neglected, while Muslims who stayed back in India were given special protection.
The Nehru–Liaquat Pact (1950) promised safety to Muslims in India, while Hindus and Sikhs continued to suffer in Pakistan.
In 1955–56, reforms were carried out only in Hindu laws, while Muslim Personal Law remained untouched.
Initiatives such as Haj subsidy (1959), overturning of the Shah Bano judgment (1985), the Waqf Act (1995), the Sachar Committee Report (2006), and former PM Manmohan Singh’s statement that “Muslims have the first claim on the nation’s resources” – all reflected the extreme forms of appeasement.
According to Dr. Singh, Congress continuously discriminated against the majority and turned Muslim appeasement into an institutional practice.
*UPA Era and Beyond – Continuation of Vote-Bank Politics :*
Calling the UPA regime the peak of Congress’s appeasement politics, Dr. Singh said: The Communal Violence Bill (2011) assumed that the majority community was responsible for riots. Under the RTE Act (2009), madrasas were given exemptions, depriving nearly 2.5 crore children of modern education.
On terrorism, Congress adopted a soft stance – repealing POTA, relaxing the ban on SIMI, and attempting to protect Afzal Guru. The theory of “Hindu Terrorism” was propagated to malign India’s cultural identity.
Congress openly supported the Shaheen Bagh protests, anti-CAA agitation, and the Hijab controversy. “Congress did exactly what it started in 1916 – the politics of Muslim appeasement. This is why it opposed the Ram Mandir for decades and created legal hurdles in the courts,” Dr. Singh asserted.
*The Way Forward – Progressive Muslim Leadership :*
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh underlined that India today needs moderate, progressive, and forward-looking Muslim leadership.
*He emphasized:*
“Religious leaders must remain confined to mosques; they should not decide politics.”
“Muslim women must receive respect, education, and equal rights.”
“The community must break free from illiteracy, radicalism, and outdated shackles.”
*Two Questions Every Muslim Must Reflect Upon:*
1. Choice of Leadership – Why did great personalities like Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam – a visionary scientist and President of India – not emerge in large numbers from the Muslim community, while criminals like Atiq Ahmed, Mukhtar Ansari, Taslimuddin, and Shahabuddin were elected as leaders and glorified with votes?
2. Progress or Decline – Why has Dubai, once a barren desert, become a global hub of education, employment, and prosperity, while nations like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, rich in resources and heritage, have plunged into extremism, instability, and economic ruin?
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh concluded: “India today needs a progressive and forward-looking Muslim society that embraces education, employment, and reform. True leadership is that which inspires, self-introspects, and leads the community out of radicalism towards growth and development.”
