From Basketball to Cricket and Volleyball – Dr. Singh’s Initiative Transforming the Sporting Landscape
Lucknow. With a vision to provide opportunities, platforms, and recognition to youth for honing their sporting talent, Sarojini Nagar MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh has been consistently organizing the Sarojini Nagar Sports League. In continuation of this initiative, the finals of the Inter-School Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Tournament, held under the 7th phase of the league, took place on Wednesday at the SKD Academy court, Vrindavan Yojna.
*DPS Eldeco Triumphs in Both Categories -*
In a remarkable performance, the boys’ and girls’ teams of DPS Eldeco defeated Seth A.R. Jaipuria School in their respective categories and lifted the championship trophy.
*Recognition and Awards for Winners -*
MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh felicitated the winners by awarding ₹25,000 each to the boys’ and girls’ champion teams of DPS Eldeco, and ₹11,000 each to the runner-up teams of Seth A.R. Jaipuria School. The Player of the Tournament titles were awarded to Ishan Singh (DPS – Boys) and Anushka Panda (DPS – Girls), each receiving ₹5,000 cash prize and a special shield. All participating players were also presented with certificates of appreciation.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Rajeshwar Singh launched the Sarojini Nagar Sports League on 4 December 2022 with the Under-19 Girls’ Basketball Tournament, aimed at keeping youth fit, active, and connected to sports infrastructure and platforms. Phase 2: Inter-Club & Inter-School Cricket Championship (3,500 players), Phase 3: Football Tournament, Phase 4: Volleyball Championship, Phase 5: Inter-Mandal Cricket Championship, Phase 6: Inter-Club & Inter-School Cricket Championship again (158 matches, 2,400 players), Phase 7 (Current): 26 Boys’ Teams & 23 Girls’ Teams participated, playing a total of 50 matches

While addressing the players, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh said: “Youth are the true strength of the nation, and sports fields are the places where discipline, hard work, and leadership values are nurtured.” He further announced that: Inter-Club & Inter-School Football Matches will begin from Gandhi Jayanti (2nd October) and Cross Country Race will be organized in November.
Dr. Singh also expressed gratitude to SKD Academy Director Manish Singh and his team for their support in the successful conduct of the tournament.
