Lucknow. Senior BJP leader and Sarojini Nagar MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh on Monday released a deeply thought-provoking message on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “When politics was a mission, India moved forward; when politics became caste-based, India came to a standstill.” He said that after Independence, politics meant national service, development and transformation, but with time, the spirit of politics changed, “Service was replaced by calculations, and calculations were replaced by caste.”

*Caste-based parties weakened national unity :*
Dr. Singh in his message stated that in many states, certain political parties made caste and regionalism their permanent political capital.
He cited examples and said that parties like the Samajwadi Party, RJD, DMK, Trinamool Congress and Akali Dal placed caste and regional identity above national interest. “These parties taught their voters – Save your caste, save your region; but never speak for the nation,” Dr. Singh remarked.

*Consequences of caste politics – from administrative decline to developmental stagnation :*
Dr. Singh elaborated that caste-based politics not only hurt national unity but also weakened governance.
He said that loyalty to caste replaced merit, which led to the fall of fairness and efficiency in administration.

Citing examples of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, he said, “Between 1990 and 2015, when caste-equation politics was at its peak, the average growth rate of these states remained below 3%. Whereas states like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka, governed by policy-driven leadership, achieved 7–8% growth.”

*“Caste is not a vote, it’s poison” – A direct appeal to the youth :*
Dr. Singh appealed to the youth, saying that the time has come for them to reject caste-based politics and embrace a nationalist mindset. “Social justice means giving opportunity, not dividing society,” he wrote. He said that young people must understand — caste politics may give temporary power, but it destroys the future of coming generations.

*Consequences of Caste-Based Politics – From Policy to Society:*
Caste-based politics has deeply impacted both India’s policy-making process and its social unity.
When decisions in Parliament are driven not by national interest but by caste-based vote-bank calculations, the direction of policy-making weakens. National interest laws such as GST, education reforms, women’s reservation, and the Uniform Civil Code remained stalled for years because some political parties prioritized caste interests over public welfare. This tendency has not only hindered development but has also wounded the very soul of democracy. Caste-driven politics has sown a sense of permanent mistrust among citizens – every community has been made to stand against the “other,” slowly eroding social harmony and the spirit of ‘One India’. “Those who divide society on the basis of caste, wound both the soul of Sanatan Dharma and the spirit of the Indian Constitution.”

*The Way Forward – Towards National Policy and Governance:*
It is now time for India to rise above caste-based equations and embrace politics rooted in national ideology and good governance.
The path is clear –
(I) Prioritize a national ideology — India first, everything else later.
(II) Promote politics of development and good governance.
(III) Tell the youth — Caste is not a vote, it is poison.
(IV) Understand that social justice means giving opportunity, not dividing society.
(V) Empower those who speak of unity, and reject those who divide in the name of caste.

Because -“When India is divided by caste, the nation’s future shrinks;
But when India stands united, the world looks towards India.”

*Nationalist politics is the future of India :*
In the final part of his message, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh said, “Those who unite India are the true patriots. Those who divide India will remain disgraced in history.” He clearly stated that casteism is the biggest attack on the soul of India, and that the time has come for the renaissance of nationalist politics. He concluded his message by writing – “When India stands united, only then will India become truly great.”
