Lucknow Sarojini Nagar MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh shared an emotional and awareness-driven message on environmental protection through his official social media account on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. He began his post with the powerful line: “The Earth is crying, now it’s our turn.”
In his detailed message, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh highlighted how people today are so consumed by work, family, and daily routines that they have become unaware of the fact that our planet is falling sick.
He appealed to everyone, saying:
“We keep our homes clean but continue to pollute the very home- the Mother Earth- where we all live. If nature stops, human existence will stop.”
*Small Steps, Big Impact – The Numbers Speak!*
Dr. Singh presented scientific facts and international data to show how individual actions can create large-scale environmental change:
*Energy Conservation* :
Replacing just one LED bulb can help India save 40 billion units of electricity and reduce 38 million tons of CO₂ emissions — equivalent to removing 8 million cars from the roads.
*Sustainable Transport:*
If only 10% of short trips are made by walking or cycling, global CO₂ emissions could reduce by 200 million tons annually.
*Water Conservation:*
A leaking tap wastes nearly 10,000 liters of water per year. If one million households act responsibly, 10 billion liters could be saved — enough to quench the thirst of 100,000 people for an entire year.
*Reducing Food Waste:*
Food waste generates 9.3 billion tons of CO₂ annually. Preventing it could reduce emissions equivalent to the combined yearly output of China and the United States.
*Tree Plantation:*
A single tree absorbs about 20 kg of CO₂ each year. If every Indian plants one tree annually, it would sequester 28 million tons of CO₂ — equivalent to emissions from 6 million cars.
*A Warning for the Future – If We Don’t Act Now…*
Dr. Singh cautioned that if environmental protection continues to be treated as “someone else’s responsibility,” future generations will inherit nothing but smoke, drought, and struggle.
Citing reports from IPCC, the United Nations, NITI Aayog, and WHO, he stated:
* By 2030, if global temperatures rise beyond 1.5°C, 47% of the Amazon rainforest will be destroyed — the largest source of oxygen on Earth.
* By 2050, sea levels could rise up to 3 meters, putting 600 million Asians at permanent risk of flooding – with Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai among the first cities to submerge.
* 75% of India’s districts have already been declared “climate hotspots.”
* 1.4 million Indians die every year due to air pollution.
* North India’s average temperature has already risen by 1.3°C over the past 50 years and could reach 4°C by 2080, making cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, and Delhi nearly uninhabitable.
*An Emotional Appeal – “Wake up today for the existence of tomorrow”*
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh said:
“The world in which our children and grandchildren will be born is being shaped by our actions today.
If we don’t plant trees today, where will they find shade tomorrow?
If we don’t save water, where will they quench their thirst?
If we don’t stop pollution, how will they breathe?”
He urged every citizen to take a personal pledge:
Saving water is a duty of faith.
Saving electricity is a moral responsibility.
Abandoning plastic is a social virtue.
Waste segregation must become a habit.
Tree plantation must be our tradition.
In conclusion, Dr. Singh said, “There is no future for humanity without nature. It’s time for every citizen to say — ‘I am not busy, I am aware.’ When the Earth survives, life will survive. When the environment breathes, only then will a Viksit Bharat 2047 truly breathe.”
