Soch Mat-Baat karo”: Open conversations on prostate cancer are essential in society – Dr. Rajeshwar Singh.
Lucknow At Medanta Hospital in the state capital, a Prostate Cancer Awareness Kiosk was inaugurated under the “Don’t Think-Talk: Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign,” operated by the Medanta Cancer Institute. Sarojini Nagar MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh emphasized the urgent need for open and frank discussions in society on sensitive issues such as prostate cancer. He stated that awareness about symptoms and timely screening must be promoted at every level-villages, cities, and neighborhoods alike. Dr. Singh clearly noted that if prostate cancer is detected at an early stage, it is 100% curable.
Highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare, the MLA said that “Prevention is better than cure” is not merely a phrase but the most pressing health necessity of our times. Expressing concern, he pointed out that India-the land that gifted Yoga to the world-today has nearly 110 million people suffering from diabetes. Obesity is also rising rapidly, and estimates suggest that by 2030, every eleventh obese child in the world will be from India, which is a deeply alarming situation.
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh further suggested that annual preventive medical check-ups should be made mandatory in the private sector. He explained that when people receive timely health reports, they can avoid serious diseases through improved diet, regular exercise, and necessary preventive measures. Stressing tobacco control, he urged complete cessation of tobacco consumption and called for collective efforts to keep children and youth away from addiction.
Speaking on the interlinkage between environment and health, Dr. Singh requested Medanta Hospital to initiate public awareness campaigns that promote green environment and sustainable development. Referring to his weekly public outreach program “Aapka Vidhayak – Aapke Dwaar”, he shared that health camps are regularly organized under the initiative. He also appealed to Medanta Hospital to ensure participation in these camps at least once every month.
As part of the program, preventive healthcare messages were conveyed to the public through one-minute screenings, panel discussions, and fitness activities. Congratulating the entire Medanta Hospital team for this innovative initiative, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh said that healthy citizens form the foundation of a healthy society and a strong nation.
Present on the occasion were Dr. Rakesh Kapoor (Medical Director), Dr. Anees Srivastava (Director, Urology), Dr. Manmeet Singh, Ravi Singh, Amit Pathak, Dr. Resham Srivastava, Dr. Neeraj Rastogi, and several others.
