*Lucknow.* Deeply saddened by the untimely deaths of young children of party workers in Sarojini Nagar, MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh, has announced a decisive road-safety initiative aimed at preventing such tragic incidents in the future.

*Two heartbreaking incidents have recently shaken the entire constituency.*

BJP Booth Adhyaksh Gudiya Gautam’s 18-year-old son Rahul had gone barely one kilometer away on his motorcycle to buy milk. Due to dense fog, his motorcycle collided with a tree. He suffered a severe head injury and succumbed to his injuries. Similarly, Mrs. Priyanka Singh, In-charge of the Women’s Wing, lost her 18-year-old nephew Anurag, who had gone to a nearby shop to buy samosas. He too lost his life in a road accident after sustaining a critical head injury. The loss of these innocent young lives has deeply shaken party workers and has personally caused immense grief to Dr. Rajeshwar Singh.

Expressing profound condolences, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh announced that 1,000 helmets will be distributed this week through CSR initiatives to all booth presidents and party office-bearers in Sarojini Nagar. The objective is for party workers to lead by example and encourage their children to wear helmets even while riding motorcycles for short distances. Dr. Singh stated, “A few moments of negligence can turn into a lifetime of pain. These deaths were preventable. Carelessness regarding children’s safety cannot be accepted at any cost.”

Dr. Singh also expressed serious concern over the alarming situation of road accidents at the national and state levels. Every year in India, nearly 5 lakh road accidents claim more than 1.8 lakh lives, averaging around 500 deaths per day. Approximately 66% of the victims are between 18 and 34 years of age. Uttar Pradesh records the highest number of road accident fatalities in the country. In 2024 alone, over 24,000 people lost their lives in 46,052 road accidents in Uttar Pradesh, of which 1,630 accidents were reported in the capital city, Lucknow.

Dr. Singh also mourned other tragic incidents, including the death of Dheeraj Shukla’s son, who was crushed by a dumper coming from the wrong direction, and the death of Arpit Trivedi, who was run over by a Scorpio vehicle in Banthra. In this case, the accused Balveer Yadav has been arrested and sent to jail. In the same incident, a young woman named Kajal also lost her life, highlighting the horrific consequences of rash and reckless driving. On the issue of road safety, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh stated that he would raise the matter before the Hon’ble Chief Minister, demanding corrective measures at accident-prone black spots and strict penalties for reckless and dangerous driving. He reiterated that safety is as essential as development, and protecting the lives of youth is a collective responsibility of society.

It is also noteworthy that on Tuesday, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh personally met more than 13 bereaved families in his assembly constituency who had lost their loved ones due to health-related reasons and road accidents over the past one month. He shared their grief and offered them consolation. During this period, he undertook the responsibility of repaying a bank loan of ₹1 lakh for Booth Adhyaksh Mrs. Gudiya Gautam, along with ensuring educational support for children of 6 families, including fee reimbursement, admissions, textbooks, and future assistance. He also took responsibility for providing employment or facilitating private-sector jobs for members of 5 needy families. Arrangements were ensured for proper medical treatment, hospital admission, ambulance services, and financial assistance for 4 ailing and differently-abled individuals. In 4 cases, necessary action was taken to ensure benefits such as widow pension, disability pension, child welfare schemes, and family benefits. In other cases, instructions were issued for social security and humanitarian assistance, ensuring that no eligible individual is deprived of support
