Lucknow On the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner and under the orders of the Additional Municipal Commissioner, a strict crackdown was conducted against illegal dairies on Wednesday in Zone 6 under the Para Police Station area. The operation was led by Animal Welfare Officer Dr. Abhinav Verma, with the support of police personnel and the municipal enforcement team.

Raids were conducted in Bhaptamau, Budheshwar Vihar, and Devpur areas, resulting in the seizure of 12 buffaloes, 3 cows, 2 heifers, and 2 calves. All animals were taken into custody and transferred to the Kanji House located in Aishbagh. The Municipal Corporation clarified that the animals will be released only after a prescribed fine is paid in accordance with the rules.

The Municipal Corporation had been receiving frequent complaints from residents regarding dairy owners dumping cow dung in vacant open plots, which was causing unhygienic conditions in the neighborhoods. Due to the lack of proper dung management, the surrounding environment had become polluted. Additionally, clogged drains led to waterlogging, which increased the risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria.

According to the Municipal Corporation, dairy farming is not permitted in urban areas. Residents are allowed to keep a maximum of two cows, only after obtaining a proper license. Under the Municipal Corporation Act of 1959, buffaloes are classified as pollution-causing animals and hence are strictly prohibited within city limits.

The special operation involved active participation from members of the Animal Welfare Department including Mr. Abhinav, Mr. Shivek, Ramkumar, Nadeem, Mr. Furkan, and Manoj, along with the police and enforcement teams.

The Municipal Corporation has appealed to all citizens to maintain cleanliness and comply with civic regulations. It warned that strict action will be taken against illegal animal rearing or open dumping of waste in public spaces.
