Building a Model Constituency for India: Dr. Rajeshwar Singh Integrates Digital Education, Water Security and Sustainability Under Net Zero Sarojininagar Mission 2040

Lucknow, June 27: In a landmark initiative towards environmental sustainability, water security and climate resilience, Sarojininagar MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh has written to schools across the constituency, inviting them to install Rainwater Harvesting Systems free of cost under the Net Zero Sarojininagar Mission 2040. The initiative aims to transform educational institutions into centres of environmental leadership and sustainable development, making it the first constituency-wide campaign of its kind in any Assembly constituency in India.

As part of the initiative, the 60 schools already equipped with Digital Labs under Dr. Rajeshwar Singh’s education reforms have been invited first to take the next step in their journey by becoming Green Schools through the installation of free Rainwater Harvesting Systems. The initiative reflects the vision of transforming Digital Schools into Green Schools, creating a unique model where technology, environmental stewardship and sustainability go hand in hand.

In his letter to schools, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh said, “The future of any nation is shaped in its classrooms. Our schools must become centres not only of academic excellence but also of environmental responsibility. If Sarojininagar is to become India’s first Net Zero Assembly Constituency, the journey must begin with our schools.”

He noted that India is the world’s largest consumer of groundwater, extracting nearly 251 billion cubic metres annually. With declining groundwater levels, erratic rainfall and increasing climate challenges, he emphasised that awareness alone is no longer enough. Practical implementation is essential. By witnessing how every drop of rainwater is scientifically harvested and used to recharge groundwater, students will develop lifelong habits of environmental responsibility.

Under the programme, participating schools will receive Rainwater Harvesting Systems completely free of cost. Schools will not incur any financial expenditure. The technical team of the Net Zero Sarojininagar Mission 2040 will conduct site assessments, prepare customised designs, oversee installation and provide technical guidance to ensure every participating institution becomes a model for water conservation.

Dr. Singh stated that the initiative goes beyond Rainwater Harvesting. Participating institutions will gradually be developed as Green Schools and Living Green Demonstration Centres, where students will receive practical exposure to groundwater recharge, climate resilience, renewable energy, solar power, biodiversity conservation, plantation, waste management, circular economy and sustainable lifestyles.

The Rainwater Harvesting Systems will also function as Living Laboratories, enabling students to understand scientific water conservation through hands-on learning. This will transform environmental education from classroom theory into practical experience while encouraging students to become ambassadors of sustainability within their families and communities.

Dr. Rajeshwar Singh emphasised that the objective is not merely conserving water but creating schools that become centres of environmental leadership, innovation and sustainable development. He urged school principals, managements and teachers to actively participate in the mission and contribute towards building a greener future.

He further said that the Net Zero Sarojininagar Mission 2040 integrates water conservation, clean energy, green infrastructure and public participation to transform Sarojininagar into India’s first Net Zero Assembly Constituency. The Digital Schools to Green Schools initiative represents a new model of constituency-led sustainable development that can be replicated across the country.

Concluding his message, Dr. Rajeshwar Singh said, “The future will not belong to those who wait for solutions. It will belong to those who become the solution. Let us work together to make Sarojininagar India’s first Net Zero Assembly Constituency under the Net Zero Sarojininagar Mission 2040.”
