“Let FICCI FLO and 170 Tara Shakti Kendras make Sarojininagar a national model of women’s empowerment” — Dr Rajeshwar Singh
“Women must move beyond being beneficiaries to become leaders of economic growth” — Dr Rajeshwar Singh
Lucknow: Sarojininagar MLA Dr Rajeshwar Singh participated in a special interaction, “From Policing to Politics, Power to People: Dr Rajeshwar Singh, MLA,” organised by FICCI FLO Lucknow at Hotel Taj Mahal. In conversation with noted journalist and author Shaili Chopra, Dr Singh spoke about his journey from policing to politics and shared his perspectives on public service, women’s empowerment, law and order, education, skills and youth development. The session was hosted by FICCI FLO Lucknow Chairperson Simran Sahni and the Executive Committee.
From Policing to Politics—Every Citizen’s Problem Matters
Dr Singh said that while policing primarily revolves around enforcement of law and maintenance of order, politics makes every citizen’s concern a responsibility of the public representative. He said that in the past four-and-a-half years, over 20,000 letters have been sent to departments including the Municipal Corporation, LDA, Transport and Health to pursue resolution of public grievances.
Citing an instance where over 30 citizens were affected by monkey menace, he recalled how an expert team was brought from Mathura for a 10-day operation. “Whether it is a major development project or a citizen’s everyday problem, every issue matters in public service,” he said.
170 Tara Shakti Kendras—From Training to Income & Enterprise
Dr Singh said women should not remain merely beneficiaries of welfare schemes but must emerge as entrepreneurs and leaders of economic growth.
He highlighted that 170 Tara Shakti Kendras have been established in Sarojininagar and over 2,000 sewing machines have been provided, connecting women with skills, self-employment opportunities, Self-Help Groups and government schemes.
100 Women to be Trained as Drone Pilots
Appreciating FICCI FLO’s contribution to women’s entrepreneurship, leadership and economic independence, Dr Singh called upon Chairperson Simran Sahni, the Executive Committee and members to partner with Sarojininagar in developing a women’s empowerment model that can be replicated across India.
In a significant announcement, FICCI FLO Lucknow Chairperson Simran Sahni said that FICCI FLO will collaborate with MLA Dr Rajeshwar Singh to train 100 women as Drone Pilots, connecting women with new-age technology and emerging employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in the drone economy.
Dr Singh proposed linking the 170 Tara Shakti Kendras with FICCI FLO’s expertise in mentorship, skill development, financial literacy, branding and market linkages.
“Our objective must go beyond training women—we must convert their skills into Income, Enterprise and Empowerment,” he said.
FICCI FLO leadership and members welcomed the initiative and expressed their willingness to work together to develop Sarojininagar as an outstanding and replicable model of women-led development.
Education, Sports & Future Skills
Highlighting initiatives for girls and children, Dr Singh said smart classes and digital libraries have been developed in girls’ educational institutions, swings have been installed through CSR support in 120 primary schools, and sports resources have been provided to over 200 girls’ youth clubs. More than 1,000 meritorious girls have received laptops, computers, bicycles and other educational resources.
With AI and automation transforming employment, he stressed the need to institutionalise Reskilling and Upskilling, and said he has proposed dedicated universities focused on these future skills to the Chief Minister.
“The Real Meaning of Power is to Empower People”
Dr Singh described strong law and order and women’s safety as essential foundations for development, enabling women to participate confidently in education, employment, entrepreneurship and public life.
He said that more than two decades in policing gave him discipline, sensitivity and administrative perspective, while politics has provided an opportunity to create change at a much larger scale through public service and policymaking.
Calling upon FICCI FLO’s accomplished entrepreneurs and professionals to use their success and expertise for the larger good, Dr Singh said:
“The highest expression of personal success is giving back to society. When Government, Industry, public representatives and institutions such as FICCI FLO work together, women’s empowerment can become a sustainable economic movement.”
