Dr. Udit Raj Among Several Protesters Detained
New Delhi, September 1, 2026
A strong protest was held today outside the RSS Headquarters at Keshav Kunj, New Delhi, under the leadership of Dr. Udit Raj, Former Member of Parliament, National Spokesperson of the Congress, National Chairman of the Unorganised Workers and Employees Congress (KKC), and National President of DOMA Parisangh, along with hundreds of supporters.
The protest was organised against the alleged insult to Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani and the registration of an FIR against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi for raising his voice against the incident.
During the demonstration, protesters burnt copies of the Manusmriti and the RSS dress to register their protest. The protesters raised slogans such as:
“The country will be governed by the Constitution of India, not by Manusmriti.”
Dr. Udit Raj said that on the one hand, there is a conspiracy to undermine the Constitution, social equality and dignity, while on the other hand, FIRs are being registered against those who raise their voices against such actions. He said the situation aptly reflects the saying, “adding insult to injury.”
Dr. Udit Raj further stated that after the rally of Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani, people associated with the BJP carried out a so-called “purification” of the rally venue. He added that the BJP State President later publicly supported the act.
Leader of Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi raised his voice against the incident and demanded action and registration of an FIR against those responsible. However, instead of taking action against the accused, an FIR was registered against Shri Rahul Gandhi himself. Dr. Udit Raj said this was an attempt to suppress democratic dissent.
Dr. Udit Raj said that insulting our Party President, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge ji, on the basis of caste is not merely an insult to one person, but an insult to the entire Dalit community. It is also an attack on the constitutional values of equality, dignity and social justice.
While peacefully protesting outside the RSS Headquarters, Dr. Udit Raj and several other leaders and workers were detained by the police and taken to Paharganj Police Station.
Such actions, Dr. Udit Raj said, cannot suppress the movement for the protection of the Constitution, equality, social justice and human dignity.
“We will raise our voice even more strongly for the protection of the Constitution, social equality and the dignity of every citizen.”
