Sarojininagar MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh welcomed Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s proposal to restrict burqas and niqabs in schools, stating that educational institutions must uphold uniform rules, women’s dignity and equality.
Dr. Singh said the world is witnessing the consequences of extremism. In Afghanistan, nearly 2.4 million girls remain deprived of secondary education, while women are barred from attending universities. In Pakistan, concerns persist over forced conversions, child marriage, so-called “honour killings” and extremist violence against women. In Bangladesh, child marriage, violence against women and the security of women belonging to religious minorities remain serious concerns.
He said, “Remaining silent on extremism is not liberalism—it is a betrayal of women’s rights.” Women’s rights, access to education and equality, he stressed, must remain above political considerations.
Dr. Singh said, “Congress-SP must choose—women’s equality or vote-bank appeasement.” He stressed that political parties must place the rights, dignity and future of daughters above electoral considerations.
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh called for uniform and secular rules across educational institutions in India, with prescribed uniforms being mandatory and face coverings inside classrooms not being permitted except where medically necessary. He said education must foster confidence, independent thinking and a sense of equal citizenship among students.
He said, “Our vision is an India where every daughter studies with freedom and confidence, and where her identity is defined by her talent—not by veils, restrictions or extremism.”
Dr. Singh further said, “Silence on extremism is a betrayal of women’s rights; Congress-SP must put daughters before vote banks.” He said political parties must rise above vote-bank considerations and adopt clear positions on women’s rights and equality, placing national interest above political expediency.
Concluding, he said, “Appeasement endangers the next generation; clear policies secure its future. National interest above all—one nation, equal rules!”
